NYC man charged with assault after allegedly tossing his 1-year-old niece down a trash chute.
A New York City man has been taken into custody after allegedly placing his 1-year-old niece into a building’s garbage chute, according to police. NYPD officials confirmed that 39-year-old Aaron Henderson is facing multiple charges, including three counts of assault, two counts of unlawful imprisonment, and one count of endangering the welfare of a child.
Police said they responded to an emergency call at an apartment complex on Steuben Street in Staten Island’s Park Hill area shortly after 3 p.m. on Monday, July 21.
“Upon arrival, officers were advised that a 39-year-old man had put a 1-year-old girl into a garbage chute,” an NYPD spokesperson said.
The child sustained a minor abrasion on her torso and was transported to Staten Island University Hospital’s North Campus, where she was reported to be in stable condition.
According to neighbors, Henderson is autistic, and the child’s parents ran downstairs to help retrieve their daughter after realizing what had happened.
