Woman Claims She Was Assaulted on New York Subway After Being Asked, ‘Are You a Muslim?

A 55-year-old woman says she was attacked on a New York City subway after being asked, “Are you a Muslim?”

According to WABC, which spoke exclusively with the woman, the incident occurred early Wednesday morning as she boarded a train in Queens. She claims that 34-year-old Naved Durrni approached her aggressively and asked about her background.

“He said, ‘Tell me, where are you from? Are you Muslim?’ I said yes. Then he started punching and kicking me all over,” the woman recounted.

She says the assault continued from the moment the subway doors closed until the next stop, at which point the suspect fled the train.

“I kept saying, ‘Stop, stop,’ but he wouldn’t stop,” she said. “I couldn’t understand what was happening.”

According to WABC, the woman sustained a concussion, a fractured nose, and multiple bruises across her body.

“This trauma stays with me. Nothing like this has ever happened to me before. How can I forget his face?” she said.

A GoFundMe campaign has been launched to help cover her medical expenses, mental health care, and basic needs like rent and groceries.
