Storm flooding in New York City claims the lives of two men in their basements

Two people were discovered dead in flooded basements across New York City on Thursday following heavy storms that swept through the area.

In East Flatbush, Brooklyn, police found a 39-year-old man unresponsive in a submerged basement. The FDNY Scuba Team recovered him around 4:25 p.m., and he was transported to Kings County Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

“I was here when they pulled him out of the water,” said Akiva, a friend of the victim.

Neighbors reported that the man, who lived in the basement, had returned inside to rescue one of his two dogs and became trapped.
